Looking at Cannabis Flowers
Today we are looking at Cannabis flowers to determine wether or not you have Male or Female plants growing.
The cannabis plant is dioecious (Dai-ee-shus), which means the male and female flowers are produced on separate individual plants. The Cannabis plant pre flowers start to show up around 3 to 6 weeks after germination. Determining what gender your cannabis plants are is important if you want BIG GREEN BUDS with out seeds.
The Male Cannabis plant shows pre-flowers signs around 3-6 weeks after germination. A male cannabis plant will start to produce little pollen sacks, often resembling a small bushel of bananas, as seen above. the very first sign being a little stick and ball were the main stem and branches connect.
Unless you want to breed your genetics and produce seeds. You will want to kill off your male plants when they start to show pollen sacks. If you do want to Breed genetics. I would suggest isolating them in a separate area far from the female plants to avoid cross pollinating them. You can then find what Male has the best traits you are looking for and collect its pollen for breeding with on a later date.
The female Cannabis plant is slightly slower to mature, showing signs 4-6 weeks after germination .the female cannabis plant will start to produce small pistils, that are oval in shape with small white hairs coming out of the tips.
The female flower is the prize crop producing the sticky, funky smelling buds covered in shiny resin glands called Trichomes. Coming in a wide variety of colours and aromas. These flowers will have to be grown to a preferred level of maturity and then harvested, dried and cured for personal use.
The hermaphrodite on rare cases of high stress do to poor growing conditions, or poor genetics. The Cannabis plant can produce both male pollen sacks and female pistols.
Unless you want a bunch of seeds you will want to remove or kill these as well.
There are two main types of hermaphrodites:
The first being true hermaphrodites that produce both male and female reproductive parts.
The second is a plant that produces Anthers, that are pollen covered sacks called “bananas”, that will quickly pollenate the surrounding areas.
I hope that summarizes it up nicely for you, good luck and enjoy the process.
